PATRICK EGELUS FINISHES FIRST FOR PALMER AND JAY DEARBORN FIRST FOR WASILLA IN THE FIRST ANNUAL HEALTHY VALLEY 5K

Wasilla, AK&emdash;The first annual Healthy Valley 5K was held Saturday, July 29 to encourage healthy competition and activity for runners, walkers, and even numerous community volunteers. Patrick Egelus placed first overall on the Palmer side with a time of 17.22. Katy Applin was the first female to finish on the Palmer side with a time of 24.54. On the Wasilla route, Jay Dearborn took first place overall with the time of 22.14. Nikki Campbell was the first woman to complete the Wasilla route and took second place overall with a time of 22.30.

In true community spirit, Valley Hospital, the City of Wasilla and the Palmer Chamber of Commerce collaborated to stage the event, which attracted over 60 participants from the Valley, Anchorage, and even some tourists from the lower 48. Runners could choose from two routes, one in Palmer and one in Wasilla, both of which ended at Pioneer Peak Elementary School. The proceeds from the race were divided between Wasilla Iditapark and Palmer A-Moosement Park. Winners can stop by the City of Wasilla to pick up their ribbons from Bob Elyard.
