McDowell Mountain Duathlon

Fountain Hills, AZ, November 11, 2000

Results courtesy of 3 Disciplines Racing.

Once again a beautiful day for some fast racing.  Very little wind, and temperatures in the upper 60's made for ideal conditions
on Saturday morning.  There were some pretty competitive races to shape up as the starting gun went off.  One in particular was
the men's mountain bike division where last years points champion David Marks, this years leader Thomas Ellis, and the newcomer
to the series this year Kevin Risenborough, and late arrival was Darrel Maxey from Performance footwear.  Kevin Risenborough, and
Darrel Maxey would fly on the first 5k with Thomas Ellis and David Marks not far behind.   The competition was fierce out on the
mountain bike course with David Marks and Kevin Risenborough going head to head.   Thomas Ellis leading in points had to maintain a
third place finish to retain the championship for the points.  That would ensure him a free entry into all future 3 d event championships for
as long as he and the rest of the points champions race.  After a flat on the mountain bike course he would not be able to retain the
place he needed and the championship and points championship would go to Kevin Risenborough.

The Female road bike division saw newcomer to the sport Dawn Gilson and a female with a lot of potential for great things in the future.  Competing
in her first duathlon in September she tied the 3 d racing McDowell Mountain duathlons course record previously held by Sue Serber
so her focus was to hold the record alone.  Without any competition out there she would lead wire to wire and break the record by
9 seconds sprinting as hard as she could coming down the 100m finish chute.  She also won the points championship to receive her free
entry pass for all future championship events.

The Men's road bike division had some great competition as well with Kelly Thompson, Spencer Roberts, and Jared Rehm all separated by
less than a minute.  Kelly lead from start to finish with Spencer and Jared trailing, it seemed each one was just that much better than the other
and just keeping enough distance ahead of the other.  It was truly a great day racing and what it is all about.  There could not have been better
racing on this day.

The female mountain bike division saw little competition with Stephany Newmay winning by ten minutes.

POINTS CHAMPIONS (receiving free entry into all future 3 d racing Championship events)
Spencer Roberts - Road
Dawn Gilson - Road
Kevin Risenborough - Mtn.
Sharon Halihan - Mtn.
