Local Favorite Jill Tranter Wins Avon Running 10k Run
First Masters Woman Sets Cincinnati 10k Course Record
Cincinnati, OH- October 15, 2000- Jill Tranter of Florence, Kentucky captured
the Avon Running-Cincinnati title today with a winning time of 35:16 her best time
by 35 seconds. Tranter, 30, and mother of a 16 month old daughter led the race from the
start with Suzanne Castruita, 28, finishing closely behind with a time of 35:35. Third
place belonged to Monica Hostetler, 24, from Lagrange, Indiana with a time of 36:59. The
first masters winner was 52 year-old Terry Mahr, from Oregon, Ohio who set a new masters
course record of 39:08.
Some 671 women participated in the Avon Running event, which included a 10K run (6.2
miles), 5K walk/run (3.1 miles), and a Childrens Fun Run in Downtown Cincinnati. The
Cincinnati site is part of Avon Running Global Womens Circuit, which includes events
in 10 U.S. cities and 12 countries.
As the Avon Running-Cincinnati winner, Tranter took home the $500 first prize
and won an expense-paid trip to Phoenix, Ariz., for the 2000 Avon Running National
Championship on Dec. 10, 2000.
Top master (over 40) runner and seventh overall, Terry Mahr also won $100 and an
expense-paid trip to the Avon Running National Championship. First master after Mahr was
another local favorite, Cathy Stricker, 42, who was ninth overall in a time of 40:50.
Jill Gomez, of Cincinnati was the winner of the Avon representative division and also
won an expense-paid trip to the Avon Running National Championship.
The top three finishers in the 5K were Lori Gromen, 27, Athens, Ohio in 21:25, Megan
Robers, 13, Cincinnati in 22:48 and Ellen Scully, 51, Cincinnati in 22:55.
The Bethany House Services, the charitable beneficiary for Avon Running-Cincinnati,
received a check for $1600 from the Avon Products Foundation.
