Great Weather & A Terrific Turnout

The 22nd Annual Round Church Women’s Run was greeted early Saturday morning with a sunny sky and 228 energetic participants.

Erin Sullivan swept the 5k run in 18:34 while Nanette Atherton took the walking division in 31:43 and Angie DeFillipi led the 10k in 39:56. The youngest participant award went to 8-year-old Heron Russell and Sylvia Weiner was honored as our veteran runner.

Once again the race had great support from local businesses. Champion Jogbra provided all of the official prizes as they have for the past five years. They were joined by sports stores Women’s Source for Sports and the SkiRack who supplied gift certificates. The KeyBank Vermont City Marathon also allowed us to raffle off a free guaranteed entry. Myers Bagels donated 20 dozen delicious bagels and Hannafords Supermarket supplied water and bananas.

The volunteers made sure that everything ran smoothly from start to finish. A huge thanks to Sue & John Scheer, Annie Follet, Sue & Joe McNamara, Tom Curtin, Jonathan Sands, Rick Blount, Zeke Zucker (who just finished Pikes Peak!), Alex Frybreger, Clif Rivers, Andrew Mack, Don Lacharite, Vic Tirrito, Charlie Windisch, Pascal Cravedi Chang, Gordon MacFarland, Caroline Biddle and Miriam Street.

This was my last year as race director and I’d like to say a big thanks to the folks who have been co-directors and pushed me (sometimes kicking & screaming) to make changes that improved the quality of the race: Connie Curtin, Sue McNamara and Bill Lorenz. These folks will continue to work on the race with the new director who will be recruited this fall/winter. I hope to see everyone next year when I get to run this race again for the first time in eight years.
