The 100th - A Cake - T-shirts

The race director and most of those assembled for the 100th Run The Woodlands 5K received two surprises. No, the field wasn't larger than that for the Conoco Rodeo 10K being held down the road in Houston. (Estimates were that the RTW field would fall about 6000 short.)

Suprise #1: The cake. RTW regular Nora Wilson arrived with a "Run The Woodlands 5K 100th" cake - see Additional Photos. (Nora and Lou Wilson left immediately after the race to go run the Rodeo race. From there, it was on to New Orleans for tomorrow's Mardi Gras Marathon.

Surprise #2: The t-shirts. All-time RTW leader in women's division first-place finishes Ann Leoni had made up a bunch of RTW 5K commerative t-shirts. These were distributed to the first 15 finishers with additional shirts made available to those who wanted them.

Russell Meyer came from behind in the last mile to notch his second RTW win. Susan Rouse recorded her second women's division victory. Congratulations to Gayle Page and Natalie Britton who completed their first-ever races.

Although a thick cloud cover rolled in overnight before the race, there was no rain. After the heavy rains which pounded those running the two previous RTW races, the dry conditions were most welcome. The temperature at the start was in the low to mid 50's.

Upcoming: The next two races are scheduled for Saturday, March 13th and Saturday, March 27th. Races are run on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. The entry fee remains $1.00 (yes, one dollar).
