by Monica Bridle
Competitors ran like the wind on Sunday, August 13, 2006 for the second annual XTERRA Boordy Vineyards 5K Scramble. The overall top honors for men went to Erik Anderson (17) of Parkville who blazed to the finish line in a time of 16 minutes and 24 seconds. Following just 14 seconds behind was Sumanth Kuppalli (15) of Perry Hall with a time of 16 minutes and 38 seconds. The overall bronze medal went to Jerry Henderson (40) of Bell Air with a time of 17:43.
Megan Digregorio (18) of White Marsh was crowned the fastest female and finished just under 20 minutes. Second and third place was a battle with Michelle Hoffman (34) of Baltimore crossing at 20:25 just inching out Jody Benedict (24) of Timonium who finished in 20:40.
The event was a sell-out at 500 people, with entrants of all ages and skill levels. Pristine weather graced the evening for this twilight run and post-race party. After zipping through the vineyards, participants relaxed with family and friends and enjoyed Boordy Vineyard wines, cheeses and a free bluegrass concert under the stars.
The proceeds from this race benefited Long Green Valley Conservancy and St. Joseph's Medical Center's Heart Institute - Maryland's largest open-heart surgery and all-digital cardiac catherization program.
If you missed this event, not to worry! Two more awesome events coming to Baltimore...we hope you can make it.
