LSI Logic Run Raises $60,000 for Milpitas High School

Ninth-Annual Event Benefits New Math and Science Building

Milpitas, CA., April 26, 1999 - The LSI Logic Classic Run raised $60,000 for a new math and science building scheduled to open at Milpitas High School in September. Proceeds from Sunday's 10K run and 5K walk will be used to purchase new computer equipment, software and other lab materials.

"The proceeds from this year's run will help bring our math and science program up to state-of-the-art standards," said Charles Perotti, superintendent of the Milpitas Unified School District. "We currently have microscopes, for example, that are more than 30 years old. Thanks to LSI Logic's support, our students will be able to conduct more sophisticated science experiments, using the latest hardware and software tools."

The 48,500-square-foot math and science facility will house 32 classrooms, including 12 science labs. In its nine-year history, the LSI Logic Classic Run has raised nearly $400,000 for Milpitas schools.

More than 600 people participated in Sunday's event. Simon Cherogony, 26, of Kenya, won $500 as the top overall 10K finisher, with a time of 30:13. Dan Gonzalez, 36, of Mountain View, who challenged Cherogony for much of the race, collected $200 for a second-place finish (30:20). Eric Ackermann, 30, of Castro Valley, won $100 for third place (32:28). In the wheelchair division, Scott Parson, 39, of San Jose, won for the third straight time, collecting $500 for his time of 23:47. Eric Kaiser, 34, of Santa Barbara, earned $200 for a close second-place finish of 23:51, and Candace Cable, 44, of Truckee, collected $100 for third (28:38).
