62 Degrees For Post-Thanksgiving QD 5

The QD 5 runners are still waiting to break out their winter warm weather gear. Shorts and t-shirts were all that was needed this Friday, as the thermometer on the Plymouth Savings Bank clock registered a warm 62 degrees. Twenty-six runners showed up on the 26th day of November to work off their Thanksgiving day feasts.

Justin Neviackas was the first one to put his Thanksgiving meal behind him, as he crossed the line in 30:40. Fellow triathalete, D.J. Fairbanks was second in 31:21. Steve Hamel bested Tim Lynch of Rhode Island for 3rd place. Brian Nelson who was "home for the holidays" from the University of New Hampshire, cracked the top five, despite arriving late and missing the start.

Edith Callaghan of Falmouth was the first woman across the line as she notched her first QD 5 win, just breaking 39 minutes. Kris Tholke and Judi Keller were 2nd and 3rd respectively.

It was a busy week for many Falmouth area runners. The long "running weekend" started Thursday with the 4.2 mile Turkey Trot cross-country race through Beebe Woods. Friday was the weekly QD 5, and Saturday was there was a 5K road race in Chatham. On Sunday morning, 25 Falmouth Track Club die-hards met at the Bourne Bridge and ran a scenic 20 mile training run to Woods Hole.

The QD 5 Miler is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge for the 5 mile run and all runners are welcome to participate.
